Coming to Hoboken Between Christmas and New Year’s? What You Need to Know

Like most of us, the City of Hoboken is taking a reprieve during the holidays between December 25th and January 1st. The City put out a press release earlier today to keep residents up to date on what they can expect during the break. Read on for what Hoboken residents and visitors need to know between Christmas and New Year’s. 

Municipal Offices Closed

City employees will be taking time off during the winter holiday season, meaning some government services will be impacted. Here is the information residents need to know:

  • The City’s municipal offices will be closed on December 25th, December 26th, and January 1st.
  • The Hoboken Parking Utility services window will close early on December 24th and December 31st, operating from 8AM to 3PM. Hop shuttle service will end early on Wednesday, December 24th, and will be suspended on December 25th, December 26th, and January 1st.
  • Street cleaning will be suspended on December 25th, December 26th,  and January 1st. Waste collection, including recycling, will continue as scheduled.
  • Parking meters will be suspended on December 25th and January 1st only, and all other parking regulations will remain in effect. 

Tree Disposal

Starting the week of December 30th, trees will be collected if they are placed at the curb after 7:30PM on Tuesday and Thursday nights. For Washington Street, trees are to be placed at the curb after 9PM. Trees must be completely bare without ornaments, lights, etc. in order to be collected. The City also instructs residents not to place their trees in a plastic bag. 

Parking Information

Through January 2nd, patrons who show attendants a receipt of at least $25 spent at a local business, parking in the following municipal garages is free for up to four hours:

  • Garage B, 28 Second Street
  • Garage D, 215 Hudson Street
  • Midtown Garage, 371 Fourth Street

There will also be free 30-minute parking along Washington Street from 3PM to 9PM on weekdays and 9AM to 9PM on weekends through December 31st. Drivers must initiate a parking session in the Washington Street zone through the ParkMobile app to receive the free parking, and the discount will automatically be applied.

Community Meetings

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host its Rebuild by Design virtual community meeting on Thursday,  January 8th at 7PM. The Rebuild by Design meeting will discuss the Hudson River Project geared towards flood protection for parts of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken.
