Holiday cheer has arrived in New Jersey with Christmas trees and lights glowing on every street. While you can cozy up at home to watch another fun holiday movie, change things up by grabbing your family and friends and visiting one of New Jersey’s amazing local theaters for a fun movie night. From classics like It’s a Wonderful Life to animated favorites like The Grinch, there is something for both the Scrooges and Elves in your circle. Some movie showings may even have a special visit from a certain someone from the North Pole before his big journey on December 25. Here’s our guide to holiday movie showings in Northern New Jersey.

This month, How The Grinch Stole Christmas is scheduled for December 21 at Agave Maria located at 170 Washington Avenue in Belleville, NJ. The Williams Center hosts concerts, live shows, and other community events in Rutherford. Connected to it is the Cinema Underground, a movie theater. This Jersey City cocktail bar regularly shows movies on Wednesday nights, so it only makes sense December would have a holiday theme. Movies are free and shown on the back patio, and while the outdoor area has heaters and is covered during the winter, guests are still encouraged to bundle up for movie nights.
Enjoy dinner and a movie on the rooftop of Hudson Table this holiday season. The four-course dinner is served in to-go boxes, making it easier to eat, and each showing is BYOB. Movie nights are on Tuesdays and tickets are available online.
