A seafood restaurant in Jersey City looks like it’s gone fishing. The Boil has been serving Jersey City lobster, crab, shrimp, and more flavorful seafood for the past five years. The Hoboken Girl noticed the restaurant at 8 Erie Street has wrapped its front windows and has been listed as “temporarily closed” online. Here’s what we know so far about the operational status of The Boil in Jersey City.
About The Boil
The Boil, a NOLA-influenced restaurant and bar, opened in 2020 in Jersey City. It currently has two other locations; one in Manhattan, and the other in Brooklyn. Seafood lovers felt right at home in Jersey City with its maritime-inspired decor. There were colorful buoys lining the walls and booths were made to look like a boat’s interior with porthole windows.

HG previously reported that chef and co-owner, Mike Khuu, opened the first location of The Boil in Manhattan in 2013. He was inspired by his annual trips to New Orleans and the city’s Viet-Cajun community. He owns all three of The Boil’s locations, as well as PhoBar and Saigon Shack in Manhattan.

What We Know

As of December 2025, the seafood restaurant on Erie Street has closed its doors and wrapped up all its windows. There was no note or notice on the door explaining the appearance. The Boil is listed as “temporarily closed” on Google Maps.

When you visit The Boil’s website, only the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations are listed with no mention of Jersey City. HG called the restaurant’s number listed on Google and it went straight to a full voicemail inbox. We reached out to the owner and will update this article when we learn more information.
