“The event was a success, but not just because of the amount that was sold,” Keira told HG. “It was successful because 12 different small businesses got together and connected. They talked and networked. Some even made plans for future events together.”

Behind the Event: Our Chat With Keira

The Hoboken Girl had the chance to chat with Keira about the event, what inspired her to host it, and what she loves about our Mile Square city.

On what the event means to Keira + why she decided to host it: “I had my 20 year anniversary living in Hoboken back in July. I really wanted to celebrate it by doing an event. I have been passionate about small business in this town for as long as I can remember. So I came up with this idea of putting together an event that would celebrate small business and what makes Hoboken special. I wanted it to be a completely free event (for both the vendors and customers). I had to find a venue that would be open to lending me their space at a low cost or no cost. I’ve always been a customer at Shepherd & The Knucklehead and thought maybe their space would be perfect. The owner, Joe, generously gave me the space for free! It would not have been possible without him. I may not have thousands of followers on Instagram, but what I do have is really special relationships with small businesses in town. Some of which I’ve built over time, and others that I’ve just connected with in the last few months. Everyone I asked to be a part of this event, said yes!”

On what went into choosing small businesses for the event: “In the last few months I have seen chain after chain, big business after big business, take over lots on Washington Street. Small business is what makes Hoboken so special. It’s the community that makes this town what it is. I wanted to highlight and celebrate that. I will always champion for small business and this event was meant to do just that.”

On what Keira loves the most about Hoboken: “I love Hoboken because of the community. It’s my favorite thing about this town and I hope it never changes.”
