What’s Taking Over Torna’s in Hoboken? Looks Like a Cafe Called Caña Coffee + Bakery

Liberty Psychological Services

Earlier this month, a longtime Hoboken favorite announced its impending closure. Torna’s Pizzeria, which has been serving the community for 60+ years, made public its plans to close for good on July 24th, 2025. The news came as a shock to new and loyal customers alike, who frequent the decades-old haunt for its Sicilian slices and pies. Torna’s will operate business as usual until late July, but a successor for the space has already been named. After Torna’s closes, word on the street is that a cafe called Caña Coffee + Bakery is coming to 254 9th Street. Torna’s Upcoming Closure

On Wednesday, May 7th, local account What Hoboken Sounds Like first reported the news of Torna’s closure via Instagram.

HG headed straight to the source to have a conversation with the Torna’s team, who confirmed the closure. One of the owners shared that the pizzeria was getting “difficult to manage.”

A sign on the window indicated that Torna’s last day of business would be July 24th. The sign read:

HDSID

“Dear Valued Customers,

With a heavy heart, we announce that Torna’s Pizza will be closing doors on July 24th.

The closure came as a shock to Hoboken locals, who expressed disappointment in both Torna’s closure and its greater implications for longstanding, family-owned businesses in the neighborhood. In less than 12 months, two other generational Hoboken businesses have closed: Losurdo Bros. (which closed in December 2024) and H+S Giovanni’s (which also closed in December 2024). “Heartbreaking to see another Hoboken staple say goodbye,” the WHSL Instagram caption read.

Locals still have time to get their slices in, as Torna’s will remain open and running until July 24th. We’ll update this piece with any details should they unfold.

What’s Next?

A new business has already set its sights on the Torna’s 9th Street location. Late last week, a source close to the project confirmed with HG that Caña Coffee + Bakery will take over Torna’s location after it closes.

Per its Instagram, Caña Coffee + Bakery is a women- and Latina-owned coffee shop and bakery with coffees and sweets. The brand has been popping up at local farmers’ markets, but will soon call Hoboken home, according to its IG bio.

Caña keeps it pretty low-key on Instagram, with just one video of chocolate chip cookies on its feed. HG has reached out to learn more about what locals can expect from the new cafe and will update this piece upon receiving a response.
