Heated workout classes seem to be all the rave these days, with more and more fitness studios starting to offer them. And since winter temps are just around the corner, there’s no better way to warm up from the inside out. If you think you can take the heat, read on to discover where you can take heated yoga, Pilates, and sculpt classes in Hoboken.

About Heated Workouts + The Benefits

Some of the benefits of taking a heated class versus a non-heated class are improved flexibility, enhanced detoxification, increased caloric burn, improved circulation, and joint & muscle relief. Many studios use what’s called infrared heat, which is a type of radiant heat that warms your body directly, similar to how sunlight warms your skin. This is different from traditional heated air, which just increases the room temperature. Although the benefits are great, heated classes aren’t for everyone. Class-goers should consider that dehydration, overheating, and dizziness are risks. Be sure to hydrate before, after, and during your workout, and to listen to your body.

Asana Soul Practice | 411 Jefferson St

Asana Soul Practice is a mindful yoga practice with two locations. The heated Yin Yoga classes are ideal for those looking for recovery. The 80 degree room aids in releasing tension and stress through deep stretching and movements. Asana Soul Practice also offers flow classes, strength “sculpting”, somatic movement + sound classes, and more. Asana Soul Practice offers workouts that strengthen and engage the body and the mind.

Elevate Pilates | 1414 Grand Street, Suite 201 & 300 Clinton Street

Elevate Pilates is a modern, super aesthetic reformer Pilates studio that now has two locations – one uptown and one downtown. The downtown location offers reformer, mat, and heated mat classes, while the uptown location offers solely reformer classes. The heated mat classes offered at the downtown location are Form + Fire and Pilates Fusion, both using infrared heat. Form + Fire is a fast-paced and Pilates-inspired class with alignment-driven sequences that target your core, glutes, and upper body. Pilates Fusion is a slower, lower-impact class that blends classical Pilates principles with contemporary movement, where you will build strength, balance, and mobility.

Ken Pilates | 706 Washington Street

Ken Pilates is a Black, LGBTQ+, and Latinx-owned Pilates studio in midtown Hoboken. It specializes in using a springboard method, as compared to the traditional reformer or mat Pilates format. The studio offers two heated classes: Hot Mat Sculpt and HotSprings. Hot Mat Sculpt combines Pilates-inspired movements, core-focused exercises, and dynamic sculpting sequences to tone, lengthen, and strengthen your entire body. HotSprings is a heated version of the classic SpringSculpt class format; it combines resistance-based strength and toning with the sweat-inducing, flexibility-boosting effects of hot Pilates.

Prime Cycle & Body | 86 River Street

Woman-owned Prime Cycle & Body continues to grow as it has added a variety of amazing classes to the schedule.   There are now four studios at the River Street location, including cycle, reformer, body, and heated sculpt, so there really is something for everybody. At the end of 2024, Prime added a sculpt studio with infrared heat, which now hosts heated sculpt, Pilates, and yoga classes.

Fast Burn Sculpt is a high-energy class that blends sculpting exercises with bursts of cardio, using light weights, resistance bands, and bodyweight moves, while Slow Burn Sculpt is a slower-paced, Pilates-inspired class designed to tone and engage your muscles while emphasizing core connection. Prime also offers Pilates Sculpt, a contemporary mat-based Pilates class, and Yoga Burn, a dynamic vinyasa-style class. The temperature of the room ranges from 80 to 100 degrees, depending on the class.

Real Hot Yoga | 1414 Grand Street, Suite 2C

Real Hot Yoga has locations throughout the US, with one of those being in uptown Hoboken. The yoga room features a heating system specifically for hot yoga, with precise temperature and humidity control, and a UV air filtration system, which removes 99% of germs, bacteria, and viruses from the air. All classes offered at Real Hot are heated, which means many choices. Some classes offer more of a workout, like Hot Power Yoga, Hot Tone & Sculpt Yoga, Hot Mat Pilates, and Hot Core Flow, and classes that are much more relaxing, like Hot Yin Yoga and Hot Candlelit Vinyasa Flow yoga.

Surya Yoga | 618 Washington Street

Surya Yoga is an unassuming yoga studio located in the heart of Hoboken, offering a variety of high-quality hot (and warm) yoga classes from different lineages like Bikram, Jivamukti, Dharma Mittra, Yin, and others. Surya features classic hot yoga classes like Hot Flow, Hot Flow – Express, Warm Yin, Hot Candlelit Flow, along with more sculpting and toning classes like Hot Pilates Fusion, Hot26 + Pilates Fusion, Hot Flow + Sculpt. The studio highly recommends prior yoga experience for some classes, like Hot Flow and Hot Flow – Express. The rest of the classes are open to all levels.

When it comes to fall flavors, pumpkin spice is as popular as it is divisive: very.. Although we here at Hoboken Girl love a good PSL, we have compiled a guide to some fall flavors throughout Hoboken and Jersey City that do not involve anything pumpkin. Read on for inspiration for your next beverage, savory dish, or sweet treat that gives you all the autumnal vibes, without the pumpkin spice.

Hoboken

Anthony David’s | 953 Bloomfield Avenue

Apple Cider Spritz

Anthony David’s is a tried and true brunch spot in Hoboken, and what makes it even greater this season is that they have drinks like apple cider spritzes and bourbon hot apple cider to make your weekend brunch even more festive and fun. Some other autumnal items on the brunch menu include house-made apple cider donuts (available Saturday and Sunday only), the chopped pear & gorgonzola salad, and the new maple sea salt latte.

 Hoboken + JC Farmers Markets

Seasonal treats and produce from local NJ farms

Farmers market season is still going strong in Hoboken + Jersey City, with some even going on through the end of the year. We’ve been frequenting the Church Square Farmers Market in Hoboken on Tuesdays, to get our weekly fix of fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts from the vendor, Melick’s Town Farm from Oldwick, NJ. Patrons can also stock up on local, seasonal produce like apples, squash, kale, and cabbage.

Mile Square Cafe | 746 Park Avenue

Apple Pie Pancakes

The team recently added a few fall items to the menu, including Apple Pie Pancakes, Autumn Toast, and a Fall Caesar Salad. We asked the owner, Steve El, what his favorite of these was, and he said the Apple Pie Pancakes. The dish features the lemon ricotta pancakes, topped with an apple pie compote, candied pecans, ricotta, and powdered pumpkin spice – ideal for a Sunday morning brunch.

Otok Bakery | 506 Grand Street

Grilled cheese & tomato soup

Otok Bakery is going all out for fall , with a seasonal menu full of beverages, pastries, and savory lunch specials. Some recently added items  the Grove Latte with oat milk and maple syrup, the Apple Crumble Croissant, and the Brie, Apple, and Fig Focaccia Sandwich. We reached out to the team at Otok to see what their favorite item on the seasonal menu is, and they said they are all super excited to have the classic Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup combo back on the menu. It’s a fan favorite for a reason.

Otto Strada | 743 Park Avenue

Roasted Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese Crostini & Spaghetti Squash Al Pesto e Pomodorini

ICYMI, Otto Strada is back and better than ever this fall, after enduring a kitchen fire back in January. The team brought back most of the original menu items, including the comforting flavors of the Roasted Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese Crostini appetizer, and the Spaghetti Squash Al Pesto e Pomodorini entree.

Zack’s | 232 Willow Avenue

 Butternut Squash Ravioli

The butternut squash ravioli at Zack’s is a quintessential fall dish. Listed under their entrees on their dinner menu, the ravioli is plated in a sage cream sauce with parmesan and prosciutto crumbles. Pair it with a glass of Chardonnay, or the Apple of my Eye cocktail, which has tequila, apple brandy, cinnamon simple syrup, and lemon juice – for all the cozy dinner vibes.

Jersey City

Corto | 507 Palisade Avenue

Fall Menu

One of our favorite things about Corto in the Heights is that the menu is always changing based on what is freshest and in season, so there is always something new to try. The fall menu at Corto does not disappoint, with dishes like the apple cheddar salad, roasted carrot salad, and the ricotta gnocchi with a brisket ragu. Grab a bottle of wine and head over to this charming neighborhood BYOB spot for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Lil Dove Cafe | 598 Palisade Avenue

Iced Maple Berry Matcha Latte

The Iced Maple Berry Matcha Latte is a fun take on the familiar matcha flavor. This drink is made up of the house-maple berry syrup (blueberry and blackberry), your milk of choice, and organic matcha. Some other tasty options for the season include  the French Toast Latte and the Iced Caramel Apple Chai Latte.

Razza | 275 Grove Street

Fall menu

Razza is one of NJ’s most popular pizza restaurants for a reason. It  features a rotation of excellent seasonal pizzas and small plates that change throughout the year. . On the dessert menu this fall, look out for the olive oil cake with local pear, whipped cream, and Vin Cotto. It won’t be on the menu for long, as it will soon transition to an apple cake. As for pizzas, two seasonal choices are on the way. First, the cauliflower pie, which features fresh mozzarella, pine nuts. And second, the brussel sprout pie, made with Brussels sprouts, fresh mozzarella, melted anchovies, garlic, and Parmigiano.

Treehouse Coffee | Multiple Locations

Apple Cinnamon & Oatmeal Cake Donuts

Treehouse Coffee in Jersey City has a few intriguing fall menu items that are worth trying out. Friday through Sunday only, Treehouse Coffee sells apple cinnamon and oatmeal cake donuts, which taste as amazing as they sound. The apple cinnamon donuts use local apples, and the oatmeal cake donuts have oats, apricots, cranberries,, and are dipped in a sweet milk glaze, and topped with house-made granola. Grab a doughnut (or a few) and the classic Vanilla Cinnamon Matcha Latte this weekend for the perfect autumn morning treat.

Passers-by near 7th and Jackson Resiliency Park over the past few months have noticed the coming together of a vibrant mural. The mural was designed under the direction of the City of Hoboken’s Division of Cultural Affairs. Local muralist Emily Strauss designed and painted the mural, which features local scenes and Hoboken residents. A ribbon-cutting was held on Monday, September 29th to celebrate the new mural and its subjects, the residents of Hoboken. Read on for more about this new mural in Hoboken’s Resiliency Park.

About the Mural

mural hoboken nj resiliency park

Annie McAdams, the head of Arts Education and Public Art within the City’s Cultural Affairs Division, led the effort to get the mural project started. Part of this division’s purpose is to scout out places in Hoboken that have the potential to showcase public art. These panels in Resiliency Park proved to be a great spot, as it has previously been just a subject of graffiti. Annie was able to connect with local mural artist Emily Strauss and her team at Mural Painter Inc. to bring the idea to life.

The team decided that it wanted the mural to be a reflection of Hoboken’s community over the years, so they asked community members to submit photos that depict their pride in being a Hoboken resident. Annie describes one of her favorite aspects that makes the mural special. “The laundry on clothing lines between apartments is just such a unique symbol of what Hoboken looked like back in the day,” she said.  Photos illustrated in the mural range from old photos of relatives in Hoboken to more present-day moments. The team also used photos from the Hoboken Historical Museum for inspiration.

The mural itself is 225 square feet and includes numerous faces of many of Hoboken’s unsung heroes. Teachers, coaches, and community leaders are depicted through bright colors and smiling faces. Some of the subjects of the mural were at the unveiling and when asked what they hope the city can take away from having the mural here one word was common in every answer: unity. The mural shows the diversity of the city in both age and ethnicity.

About the Art

Emily Strauss and her team were commissioned to make this mural by the Office of Cultural Affairs. While Emily was not born and raised in Hoboken, she has called The Mile Square home for nearly a decade. She is also a business owner in town with her mural art company based in the Neumann Leather building. She was tapped to create the mural and got to work right away. The entire process, from the initial ask to the ribbon cutting, was just about two months. “We worked for about two weeks off-site, gathering the photos and digitizing them with our incredibly talented graphic designer, Aaron Martin. After that, we worked on-site for about six weeks,” Emily shared. Thanks to the great relationship with the City of Hoboken and little to no rain in the forecast, the project was completed in exactly six weeks, which was the original timeline. Emily gives all credit to her team who worked tirelessly to make sure the project came to life.

In addition to residents’ contributions to the mural,  what makes this project so special is the involvement of Hoboken’s youth. Emily and her team were able to start providing youth art classes focused on mural making, held by the City’s Division of Cultural Affairs. The intent of these classes is to make art education accessible to all community members, so there was just a nominal fee to enroll in the program, and the fee was waived for children who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

In these classes, kids learned about the art of mural painting, and were even able to contribute directly to the mural by painting parts themselves. Emily expressed her gratitude for working with these kids; she said “kids are like sponges”, as they absorb new information so quickly and easily. She was inspired to see the kids’ strong interests in the arts, as they asked questions about her business and how it runs.

During the unveiling ceremony, Mayor Ravi Bhalla and Councilman Michael Russo both shared that what is now the park, playground, and mural used to be a towing center. It’s not home to a stunning, 2,025 square foot mural that tells a rich history of an ever-evolving community. Councilwoman Emily Jabbour expressed her thanks to the families who shared their stories and photos to make the mural possible.
