The coming of a new year seems to offer endless gifts: the opportunity to reset, the chance to buy a new calendar, and a whole year’s worth of entertainment to look forward to. Raise a glass, because Hollywood is prepared to shower the year ahead with enticing stories, many of them filmed on New Jersey’s own streets. Read on to discover which shows and films hitting screens in 2026 will feature our very own state as a backdrop, plus where (and what) you can still catch crews filming around NJ.

The Ones to Watch Out For

The Devil Wears Prada 2 | Release Date: May 1, 2026

Two decades after Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep’s original fashion dramedy, a highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada will be released worldwide on May 1, 2026. Though, like its predecessor, the film will likely take place in Manhattan, this sequel is brimming with NJ talent. In Hathaway, who grew up in Millburn, and Streep, who hails from Somerset County, it stars two of the state’s most famous exports. Perhaps a similar path to fame awaits a lucky Newark-area resident, as production called upon locals to portray airplane passengers in background scenes filmed in Newark on September 10.

The Bride! | Release Date: March 6, 2026

From filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! is an upcoming horror inspired by the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein. Featuring murder, mobsters, and monsters, it follows the reanimation of a woman in 1930s Chicago. One iconic piece of NJ history will show up in what cinematographer and Teaneck native Lawrence Sher told NJ.com was a “major scene”: the Washington Street Trolley Tunnel in Newark. If history fans want to see this mostly defunct pathway be mysteriously brought back to life, The Bride! will be in theaters on March 6, 2026.

Paper Tiger | Release Date: TBD

A-list actors Scarlett Johansson, Miles Teller, and Adam Driver were in Teaneck in July 2025 filming Paper Tiger, a new drama whose themes include brotherhood, betrayal, and the American Dream. (Fun fact: before Johansson signed on, the film was meant to star Anne Hathaway, who likely found herself busy with a certain sequel.) The film is directed by James Gray, whose most recent project, Armageddon Time, was also shot in our state. Though no release date has been announced, the film will likely finish production in early 2026 and may come out in time to receive Oscar buzz.

Sing Song Blue | December 25th, 2025

A++ listers Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson were spotted in New Jersey filming Sing Song Blue, a true story about two musicians who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. This underdog story follows a Milwaukee couple making their last attempt at success in the music industry. Cameos abound in this film, including Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, who re-enacts his real-life role, offering the duo a spot as an opening act.

New From Netflix

Don’t Say Good Luck | Release Date: TBD

Actor and filmmaker Adam Sandler has gained much attention from his extended time in the Garden State. Recently, Sandler has been spotted in the North Jersey area working on projects with his daughters. Don’t Say Good Luck, starring Sunny Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Melanie Lynskey, and Max Greenfield, is a musical rom-com geared toward a younger audience. Production took place at a high school in Ridgewood and a pizzeria in Livingston, and the film is expected to come out on Netflix in the spring.

Roommates | Release Date: TBD

Another Adam Sandler project, Roommates, took over Montclair High School to film a graduation sequence over the summer. The film stars another one of Sandler’s daughters, Sadie, alongside notable names in comedy Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll; Lyonne was also spotted in Montclair around the time of the graduation shoot.

Office Romance | Release Date: TBD

Office Romance, a rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez and Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, spent multiple days shooting at a Gates Avenue home in Montclair, a massive Tudor estate that looks, fittingly, like something out of a movie. The leading pair was also spotted strolling down streets in Hoboken and spent significant time filming in Kenilworth.

The Last Mrs. Parrish | Release Date: TBD

Like Sandler, Jennifer Lopez is fervently working with Netflix to release new and exciting films in 2026. Lately, she has been filming locally in The Last Mrs. Parrish, a psychological thriller about an insidiously ambitious social climber based on a 2017 novel of the same name. In October, J-Lo was seen filming along Navesink River Road in Middletown and was later spotted at Birravino, a wine bar in Red Bank.

The Whisper Man | Release Date: TBD

The Whisper Man, starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott, is an adaptation of a true-crime thriller novel about a man whose son is abducted. Cast members filmed at a private home in a Union County township in April. Scott also filmed alongside actress Michelle Monaghan in Plainfield, North Plainfield, and Westfield.

Bad Day | Release Date: TBD

Another Netflix project coming soon to our screens is Bad Day, a Cameron Diaz feature film and action comedy about a single mom’s journey through a disastrous day. After a nearly decade-long hiatus from acting, Diaz was spotted in numerous locations throughout the state in the fall of 2025. The actress did scenes in Jersey City, Bloomfield, and Perth Amboy. In early October, the production even shut down a stretch of Route 133 in East Windsor, although Diaz was not present on that set.

Fight for ’84 | Release Date: TBD

This biopic is based on the true and tragic story of the U.S. Olympic boxing team, which underwent a rebuilding period and embarked on a journey to glory after a plane crash. It stars Jamie Foxx, who has an extensive history of boxing on screen as both fictional fighters and famous boxers. Recently, the crew shut down a small East Rutherford ice cream shop called Cake and Cone, though more filming is expected throughout the early months of 2026.

Talking Television

Bad Mistakes | Release Date: TBD

Bad Mistakes is an exciting new comedy from Netflix and Dan Levy, one of the creative and Emmy Award–winning minds behind Schitt’s Creek. This new series, what Levy calls a “truly chaotic family story,” has Laurie Metcalf playing Levy’s character’s mother. The production team was spotted at Edison Millwork and Hardware in September and spent time filming at a private home on the same street. Though the project is called Bad Mistakes, shooting in Jersey might just have been the best idea ever: when it comes to slices of life, there is no denying Jersey’s charm.

Crystal Lake | Release Date: TBD

Feature-length films are not the only kinds of Jersey-based media coming to us soon. One notable project, Crystal Lake, recently finished filming in various locations throughout the state. The series is A24’s prequel to the iconic Friday the 13th franchise, which also has roots in the state. Production placed casting calls around the NJ/New York area for children and young people to play background actors at a fictional sleepaway camp. Alongside shooting in Hope Township and Clifton, the series filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Hardwick Township; this camp was also used as a location for the original film. The show is expected to stream on Peacock, where your own backyard might look a lot spookier by this time next year.
