A group of five local creatives (and friends) are bringing a totally new concept to Hoboken. The new endeavor which will house multiple forms of niche-entertainment, is fittingly called Mothership. The Hoboken Girl received a DM from the new store owners earlier this year with the inside scoop telling us all about Mothership, which will be a community art store with pop culture swag, vinyl, a vintage arcade, and so much more (trust us, keep reading) coming soon to 257 1st Street in Hoboken. The space will house a variety of entertainment-related fun that is anticipated to be a big hit with local gamers, students, and creatives. HG recently found out that Mothership will make its debut in Hoboken on Saturday, October 11th. Read on for everything we know so far about Mothership coming to Hoboken, NJ.

The Concept

Mothership aims to be a “third space” for Hoboken locals by creating a uniquely dynamic hub to hang out, socialize. shop, and explore creative activities. While more details unfold behind the scenes, the team at Mothership shared with HG that patrons can expect a wide variety of entertainment in a non-traditional setting. The space will have everything from retail pop culture items and collectables such as comic books, plushies, Japanese imports, Pokemon trading cards, and indie art with access to vintage arcade games, a video game lounge, vinyl listening rooms, and a computer station where customers can game, print, and use various softwares.

Mothership also plans to provide a membership program for recurring visitors and even intends to launch a micro coffee bar a few months after opening, making this space the ultimate sit-and-stay-a-while hangout. In addition to all of the above, the space will also be a venue for weekly community events such as DJ nights, trivia competitions, and movie nights to foster community.

Programs and activities here are open to all but geared toward the local youth, particularly the college student scene. The space will be run by a group of five local friends who are all creatives in their mid-20s and excited to bring their brainchild to the Hoboken scene.

Mothership will take over the vacant space at 257 1st Street in Hoboken this fall, with a grand opening celebration set up for Saturday, October 11th. The storefront was previously occupied by Unjumbold, a full-scale interior renovation and project management company. On February 28th, 2025, Unjumbold announced the closure of its brick-and-mortar space, sharing that the team would continue to serve clients through their new mobile design center across New York and Northern New Jersey.
