The popular bakery franchise Cafe Unibread closed its doors in Hoboken in August 2024, and for almost a year, the storefront at 519 Washington Street remained vacant. Signage spotted over the weekend of July 26th, 2025, indicated that Pure Green, a smoothie, acai bowl, and juice brand, was planning to move into the space. Now we know that the franchise will open on September 20th, 2025. Read on for what to know about Pure Green, opening in the former Cafe Unibread storefront in Hoboken, New Jersey.
About Pure Green
Pure Green was founded in 2014 by self-proclaimed “wellness visionary” Ross Franklin. The franchise began in New York City and has since expanded to 21 states. The Hoboken storefront is its third location in New Jersey. Pure Green can also be found in Princeton at 302 Mercer Mall, Lawrenceville at 3371 U.S. Route 1, and Bridgewater at 610 Commons Way.

On September 20th, from 10AM to 2PM, Pure Green will host its grand opening, featuring multiple giveaways, raffles, and fun-filled kids’ activities. The first 35 customers will also receive a complimentary smoothie.
With a mission to operate sustainably and “build healthier communities around the globe by connecting people with superfoods,” per its website, all of Pure Green’s menu items are gluten-free, kosher, and non-GMO. The menu features cold-pressed juice, juice shots, superfood toasts, oatmeal bowls, smoothies, and acai bowls.
Among the highlights are 13 different smoothie creations that will be available to Mile Square customers upon opening, including options like the namesake smoothie Pure Green (kale, spinach, mango, banana, pineapple, + coconut water), Mocha Cold Brew (cold brew coffee, raw cacao, almond butter, banana, grass-fed whey protein, almond milk), and Blue Banana (blue spirulina, acai, banana, grass-fed whey protein, cashew butter, coconut butter, + almond milk).

Acai bowls are also one of Pure Green’s most popular offerings. Options include the Pure Health Acai (acai base blended with bananas and almond milk, topped with sliced bananas and hemp granola) and the Pure Pitaya (pitaya base blended with mango, pineapple, and coconut water, topped with blueberries, strawberries, and hemp granola). Pure Green’s menu also features premium acai bowls, which are elevated versions of its classic bowls, enhanced with more nutritious products like grass-fed whey protein, collagen protein, and chocolate hazelnut butter.
What Was There Before?
Cafe Unibread, formerly known as Sunmerry Bakery, operated at the Washington Street location for years before closing its doors in August 2024. The bakery franchise served high-quality breads, pastries, and savory items, with its menu featuring various French and Asian influences like its chocolate croissants and taro pastry buns.
HG confirmed the closure of the brand’s Mile Square location on August 8th, 2024, after speaking to team members at the Fort Lee location, which has since closed. While Cafe Unibread is no longer in Hoboken or Fort Lee, its menu items can still be found in Queens at 182‑04 Horace Harding Expressway.
