Po Boy Riche is Jersey City’s newest dining destination. This New Orleans-inspired spot is located at 89 Monitor Street, adding a fun dimension to Bergen-Lafayette’s food and drink offerings. Between the rich flavors of the food and menu options for everyone, including vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free diners, we’re already planning our next trip back. Read on for more about Po Boy Riche in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City.

The Backstory

Behind Po Boy Riche is Founder and Partner Israel Jiles, a New Orleans native whose upbringing and global restaurant experience inspired him to bring an authentic taste of home north. He partnered with Executive Chef Darrell Raymond, whose 25+ year career spans iconic kitchens like Raoul’s and Buddakan, as well as leadership roles across New York, Miami, Montreal, London, and beyond. Together, they’ve created a menu that’s deeply rooted in tradition while feeling right at home in Jersey City.

The intimate spot seats about 20 for weekday lunch and dinner, and weekend brunch. The team offers catering, which we think will be a sleeper hit when it’s time for The Big Football Game on TV.

The restaurant has an Artist Wall as part of the interior, showcasing work from local photographers and artists who simply submit their pieces to be enlarged and displayed.

What to Expect

While every city has its must-eat items, there is one New Orleans delicacy that (literally) rises above the rest. Beignets! These sweet yeast rolls dusted with powdered sugar are truly unforgettable. Chef Raymond was inspired by the legendary Café Du Monde — he swears they’re the closest you can get without hopping on a plane.

There’s also a standout bread pudding, a creative take that nods to apple pie and is finished with Chantilly cream. Local favorite Torico’s Ice Cream rounds out the sweets menu, which, IYKYK.

Naturally, the heart of the menu is the iconic Po’ Boy sandwich, available with a variety of fillings. While you can’t go wrong, the team may gently nudge you toward the Half Shrimp, Half Oyster Po’ Boy. Other options include fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, chicken, roast beef, BBQ mushrooms for vegans and vegetarians, and a classic Muffuletta-style po’ boy layered with cured meats, cheeses, and olive spread. Every sandwich is dressed NOLA-style and served on fluffy, crispy French bread shipped directly from New Orleans’ legendary Leidenheimer Baking Co.

The menu also features comforting Southern staples like jambalaya, dirty rice, Cajun fries (debris-style or not), creamy grits, red beans & rice, and more. The jambalaya is prepared a la minute, ensuring every ingredient — chicken, shrimp, spicy sausage, and seasoned rice — gets its moment to shine.

The brunch menu, available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30AM to 3PM, includes the iconic Café du Monde chicory coffee and other Creole items. We have our eye on the Hummingbird French Toast, made with fluffy brioche, banana cream cheese, caramelized pineapple, spiced pecans, and maple syrup — reminiscent of the classic Southern dessert Hummingbird Cake. There’s even a breakfast po’ boy on the brunch menu, filled with eggs, lamb sausage, Louisiana fries, and spicy mayo.

Po’Boy Riche is open Monday – Sunday: 11:30AM – 3:30PM / 5PM – 9PM, and brunch is served Saturday & Sunday, 11:30AM – 3PM.
