I Play Rocky 

Last seen: November 14th 

Starring: Anthony Ippolito

Film crews took over the Stevens Institute campus on Friday, November 14th, for an upcoming Rocky-adjacent film called I Play Rocky. Per Deadline, the movie follows Sylvester Stallone “before he came a mega star. His unshakable belief was that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky — he was meant to be Rocky Balboa. Told “no” at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead against seemingly impossible odds. The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie.”

Here Comes the Flood

Starring: Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, Daisy Edgar-Jones

The Station Hoboken

Filming was spotted for what is rumored to be the new Netflix heist movie Here Comes the Flood on Hudson Street in Hoboken on November 6th. A HG reader believes they spotted Robert Pattinson rehearsing, but that is unconfirmed as of this writing.

Per Netflix, Here Comes the Flood is “an unconventional heist movie about a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses.” Other cast members include Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible), Moisés Arias (Jockey, Monos), and Justin Kirk (Succession, Weeds).

Samo Lives

Last seen: October 15th

Starring: Kelvin Harrison Jr., Iván Amaro Bullón, Amanda Barlow 

Crews were spotted working on the indie film, Samo Lives, at Dino + Harry’s on October 14th. The film is a biopic portraying the life of revolutionary NYC artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Per Patch Hoboken, crews were spotted in Hoboken filming on Garden Street on October 15th and in Jersey City Heights in September. According to Variety, star of the film Kelvin Harrison Jr. is best known for his work in Cyrano, a film in which he co-starred alongside Peter Dinklage. The actor is also known for the A24 film Waves, in which he co-starred with HBO’s Euphoria star Alexa Demie.

 The new film is written and directed by Julius Onah, who has previously worked with the Samo Lives star on the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Award nominated film Luce, which co-starred Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer. Luce also earned the pair a nomination for the 2019 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and won the 2020 Chlotrudis Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, the 2019 New York Film Critics, Online Breakthrough Performance Award, and the 2019 San Diego Film Critics Society (SDFCS) Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. 

Best of the Best

Starring: Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Priyanka Kedia, Hasan Minhaj

A new Netflix feature film, titled Best of the Best, is filming in Bayonne on September 10th, 2025. As per a Facebook post, filming is taking place on the east side of Broadway East, between 41st Street and East 45th Street, the north side of East 42nd Street, between Broadway + Avenue East, and the south side of East 43rd Street, between Broadway and Avenue East. The film stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from Never Have I Ever, Priyanka Kedia from Everything To Me, and Hasan Minhaj from Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.

According to Tundum, Best of the Best will follow the story of “two childhood best friends…who join their college’s competitive Bollywood dance team only to discover that the road to winning the national championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined.”

Good Sex

Starring: Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, Role Model 

On August 14th, Dino + Harry’s temporarily closed for filming. A source close to the project shared that the movie is a new Netflix rom-com called Good Sex, starring Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, and Tucker Pillsbury, the musician formally known as ‘Role Model.’ Lena Dunham is directing the film. 

Earlier this summer, on July 30th, HudPost shared a video of Mark Ruffalo in Jersey City for filming. 

Per Hollywood Reporter, Good Sex “centers on a pragmatic couples’ therapist named Ally (Portman), who, after spending a decade in a failed relationship and now turning 40, reluctantly dips her toe back into the New York dating scene. But, per Netflix’s logline, Ally gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men, one in his twenties and one in his fifties, who show her there is no set formula for good sex.” 

Roommates

Last Seen: Weeks of July 14th + 21st

Starring: Sadie Sandler, Nick Kroll, Chloe East, Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, and Storm Reid

Roommates is an upcoming movie by Adam Sandler and his production company, Happy Madison Productions. Earlier this month on our sister site, The Montclair Girl, we reported on Roommates filming in several Montclair locations. Now, the movie has been filmed several times in the Mile Square. Per Patch Hoboken, the crew was spotted during the week of July 14th at Ninth and Hudson Streets, and again on Monday, July 21st in the same location. Per Deadline, the upcoming film follows a hopeful, naive college freshman, Devon, who asks the cool and confident Celeste to be her roommate — seeing a blossoming friendship spiral thereafter into a war of passive aggression.

Last Seen: July 16th

Starring: Kevin Hart 

On Monday, June 23rd, multiple Jersey City locals spotted veteran comedian Kevin Hart (and a stunt double) filming in Jersey City’s Van Vorst Park, according to the Van Vorst Park Instagram account. The project is 72 Hours, a new Netflix comedy in which Hart is set to star. Per NJ.com, producers were looking to cast New Jersey residents as extras in late May, and the movie is billed to film throughout the state for much of the summer. 

A few days later, on June 27th, the crew made their way over to Hoboken, setting up shop uptown at Hudson Street, near the Elks Lodge.

On July 16th, 72 Hours was seen filming at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, using a 200’ ship and the gas dock as a Miami Beach location, per the Van Vorst Park Instagram account.

According to Deadline, 72 Hours “follows a 40-year-old executive who hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of twentysomethings on a wild three-day bachelor party, after he’s inadvertently added to their group text.” The outlet says “Hartbeat, Davis Entertainment, Counterbalance, and Will Packer are producing from a script by Matt Mider & Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the script ten years ago.”

Coin Toss/A Place in Hell

Last Seen: June 12th

Starring: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Michelle Williams, Douglas Dickerman

Coin Toss (aka A Place in Hell) is a new legal thriller that follows two women who work at a high-profile criminal law firm. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, War of the Worlds, Cold Feet), Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, My Week With Marilyn, Brokeback Mountain), and Douglas Dickerman (Ozark, Acrimony). Grant Wilfley Casting is seeking extras from NYC, Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, Kearny, and Bayonne, per a casting call. The film shot in Jersey City on May 27th and May 28th. 

The film then made its way over to Hoboken, setting up shop at the Hoboken Elks Lodge and Elysian Cafe on Tuesday, June 10th. On Thursday, June 12th, crews were again spotted at Dino + Harry’s. See a photo below.

Mr. Irrelevant

Last Seen: May 29th + May 30th

Starring: David Corenswet, Isabel May, Michael Shannon, + more

Directed by Jonathan Levine, Mr. Irrelevant is a new true-story-inspired film about John Tuggle, the last player chosen in the 1983 NFL draft. According to IMDb, the film will revolve around “the inspiring, enduring impact that Tuggle had on his team and teammates after being drafted by the New York Giants.” So far, the crew behind the movie has been seen shooting in Jersey City on May 29th and May 30th.

The Family McMullen

Last Seen: Week of April 21st

Starring: Michael McGlone, John El-Jor, Bryan Fitzgerald

The Family McMullen was spotted filming on Barrow Street and around downtown Jersey City on the week of April 21st. Starring Michael McGlone (The Brothers McMullen, Person of Interest), John El-Jor (Mean Girls (2024)), and Bryan Fitzgerald (What Breaks the Ice), the film follows a close-knit family navigating life’s ups and downs, confronting personal struggles and evolving bonds, per IMDb.

Office Romance

Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Brett Goldstein  

Nearly a year after her last visit to Hoboken, Jennifer Lopez returned to the Mile Square on Monday, April 7th, to film an upcoming Netflix rom-com called Office Romance. Crews were lined up on 1st and River Street, and several HG readers reported that J Lo and her co-star Brett Goldstein were on the scene. On Monday, April 21st, Office Romance was again filming in Hoboken, this time on Marshall Street. 

Details surrounding the film are slim, but per Deadline, Netflix won the rights to the film back in September, with producers “Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company; Goldstein and Kelly; as well as Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Films” at the helm. 

The Whisper Man

Last Seen: April 14th 

Starring: Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan

On Monday, April 14th, film crews were seen on Bloomfield and Garden Streets between 8th + 10th Streets filming a new action thriller starring Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan called The Whisper Man.

The crew is billed to film all over New Jersey, making appearances the week earlier in North Plainfield, Union County, and Westfield. In March, Grant Wilfley Casting was actively looking to cast New Jersey locals as extras in the movie, with openings for people of “all genders and ethnicities,” according to NJ.com.

Per IndieWire, The Whisper Man follows “a widowed crime writer (Adam Scott) who works with his estranged father, a retired police detective (Robert De Niro), to find his abducted 8-year-old son. The duo soon realizes that the case has a connection with a decades-old murder committed by a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” The film is based on Alex North’s New York Times bestselling novel.”

The Florist

Last Seen: April 2nd

Starring: Dennis Quaid

A new action thriller called The Florist is filming in Hoboken and Jersey City from the end of March until the end of April, per NJ.com. The movie was initially billed to star Kiefer Sutherland — best known for his roles in 24, Designated Survivor, Phone Booth, and many more — but per NJ.com, “producers say official casting information is still yet to be announced.” Dennis Quaid was seen filming in Jersey City on April 2nd, and crews shared with HG readers that he is set to star in the film.

The movie follows Carl Rikker, a florist and assassin, who finds himself protecting a young girl in danger. The movie also stars French cinema star Jean Reno, known for his roles in Léon: The Professional, Mission: Impossible (1996), and more.

Late Fame

Last Seen: January 23rd

Starring: Willem Dafoe, Sandra Hüller

The first arrival of 2025 was an upcoming film starring Willem Dafoe (who most recently portrayed Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz in Nosferatu) and Sandra Hüller. On Thursday, January 23rd, film crews lined the 700 block of Bloomfield Street for the majority of the day, with most of the filming done inside various Bloomfield Street properties.

Called Late Fame, the movie “tells the story of Ed Saxberger (Dafoe), who wrote a book of poetry a long time ago that no one ever cared about. When a group of young artists rediscovers his work, he must reassess his genius. The wild card in the group is Gloria (Hüller), a talented and mercurial theatre actress who toys with affections and who is all set to be admired by Saxberger, this legendary figure from a gritty New York golden age,” per Variety
