May is Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, where we celebrate, honor, and learn more about the contributions of the AAPI community to our culture. The month was deliberately chosen because it was during May that both the first Japanese immigrants came to the US in 1843, and in May 1869, the first transcontinental railroad was completed in the US, which was built with an incredible contribution from Chinese workers. The date of May 10th is known as Golden Spike Day to mark the railroad’s completion.
