Arnold Palmer from Black Rail Coffee | 800 Jackson Street, Hoboken

Black Rail is such a hidden gem in town for coffee, work-from-home vibes, and delicious sandwiches. But what many may not know is that in the summer months, they create an Arnold Palmer tea version — it’s a combo of house-made lemonade and green tea, topped with loads of ice. It’s the ultimate coffee shop refresher of the summer, especially if you’re needing a little pick-me-up with a spike of green tea and the sweet combo of lemonade. (HG pro tip: you can ask for it 3/4 tea for a less sweet option, and pair it with a tuna melt or the Healthier sandwich, and you will not be disappointed.) ~ Jennifer Tripucka, Founder + Editor-in-Chief

Jane’s Matcha is an AAPI + women-owned matcha business in Jersey City, specializing in hand-whisked matchas, teas, and handmade ceramics. Over the past few weeks, the HG team has been enjoying the Blueberry Matcha with Honeycomb, available at The Alps every Thursday and Friday from 7AM to 1PM. Also on the menu at this pop-up are Jane’s signature matcha drink and hojicha beverages, which can be enhanced with strawberry and honeycomb additions. ~ Jennifer Tripucka, Founder + Editor-in-Chief

Boken Blonde Spritz from The Brass Rail | 135 Washington Street, Hoboken

The Brass Rail Summer Spritz Menu is fully decked out with refreshing, bubbly drinks that kept me cool through a mid-heatwave happy hour. Instead of my usual go-to Hugo Spritz, I opted for the Boken Blonde, which has the same Elderflower flavor as the Hugo with the addition of zesty grapefruit + lemon juice. The ice-cold combo of citrus and floral notes was equally bold and light, and would be a delicious option for spritz-lovers who find the taste of Aperol to be a bit heavy. ~ Kerrie Joyce, HG Contributor

Move over, coffee, summer 2025 is all about the teas. This season, team HG is sipping on Forum Coffee’s Cloud Matcha. This refreshing drink is made with ceremonial-grade matcha and can be poured over house-made green iced tea or Strange Water’s signature coconut water. With either variation, this drink is cold, airy, earthy, yet sweet, and tastes like summer in a cup. ~ Lauren Rivera, Editorial Assistant

Iced New Orleans-Style Coffee Brew from Hidden Grounds | 700 Garden Street, Hoboken + 144 Summit Avenue Retail A, Jersey City

The iced New Orleans-style coffee brew from Hidden Grounds is so refreshing on a hot day. I love the nutty taste of the chicory. I’m pretty sure there are health benefits from chicory root, too! ~ Sarah Griesbach, HG Contributor

The only thing better than an Aperol spritz on a hot summer’s day? A frozen Aperol spritz on a hot summer’s day. Margherita’s in Hoboken is serving these cool cocktails throughout the summer, and it’s been a post-work HH favorite for us at team HG. It helps that Margherita’s has an adorable outdoor setup (with tables and chairs as orange as the spritz itself) and delicious fresh pizzas. ~ Danielle Farina, Creative Lead

Frozen Espresso Martini from Battello | 502 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City

Funfetti Iced Latte from Mojo | 230 Willow Avenue + 801 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken, + 159 Newark Avenue

Mojo is a staple coffee spot in the Hoboken and Jersey City area. The Funfetti Iced Latte from this spot is seriously so good. It’s such a fun drink both in taste + looks. I get mine with almond milk, and it gets even better every time I order it. ~ Carli Clesmere, HG + BG Contributor

Maple Cold Brew with Cold Foam from Mojo | 230 Willow Avenue + 801 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken, + 159 Newark Avenue, Jersey City

Maple cold brew with cold foam from Mojo Coffee is not technically on the menu, but if you ask for it, they will whip it up. The maple cold brew is just sweet enough without being overpowering, and the cold foam just makes it fun. I personally do not add any other milk or sweetener because I think it’s perfect just the way it is. After a run along the waterfront, this is a great treat to cool down and re-energize. ~ Jordan Hernandez, HG Contributor + Volunteer Coordinator

Matcha Lemonade from Daily Provisions | 132 Bay Street, Jersey City

Nothing hits the spot like a boost of green energy from a matcha. In the summer months, the usual matcha latte can feel heavy on the milk, so if you’re in the mood for something caffeinated that’s still light and refreshing, try Daily Provisions’ Matcha Lemonade. The bright and icy beverage captures a tangy combination of the eatery’s homemade fresh lemon sherbet with high-quality matcha whisked in. It’s not too sweet and quite literally tastes like summer. ~Via Rutkowski, HG Contributor + Sponsored Content Writer

Mint Green Tea Lemonade from Empire Coffee + Tea | 338 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken

Empire Coffee + Tea is a Hoboken staple known for its coffee beans (which make the whole shop smell great, BTW), wide variety of teas, and unique seasonal drinks. This summer, alongside their usual coffee drinks, they have created a bunch of delicious iced tea concoctions that are worth a try on a hot day. We tried the Mint Green Tea Lemonade and loved how light and refreshing it was. They also have the Butterfly Mango Sunset, a hibiscus herbal tea with lemonade and mango purée, and the Sexy Tea Sunrise, a black tea with lemonade and mango purée, both of which we can’t wait to try. ~ Emily Gretta, HG Contributor

St. Germain Spritz (aka a Hugo Spritz) at Chickie’s | 236 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City

Italian might not be the go-to thought for a refreshing meal on a hot summer day, but the St. Germain Spritz at Chickies is simply delicious. It’s light, cool, and elegant. Pair it with a salad and fries, and girl dinner is complete. ~ Heather Rafanello, HG Contributor

Strawberry Cloud Matcha from Alfalfa | 92 Bloomfield Street + 1110 Washington Street, Hoboken + 160 1st Street, Jersey City

Alfalfa is known for its seasonal menu additions and delicious influencer partnerships. This summer, the strawberry cloud matcha is on the menu for a limited time, created in partnership with mental health advocate and social media personality, Victoria Garrick Browne. This colorful, refreshing drink starts with a homemade strawberry syrup, then the cup is filled almost to the top with your choice of milk and ceremonial matcha. There’s just enough room at the top for a creamy, strawberry cold foam and organic, strawberry dust. This drink provides a small caffeine boost, ideal for an afternoon pick-me-up, and is light enough to enjoy even on the hottest of days. ~ Joelle Hernandez, Marketing Director + Volunteer Coordinator

Strawberry Refresher from Imposto’s Pizza | 102 Washington Street, Hoboken

As its name suggests, this drink is quite refreshing. The sweet touch of strawberry syrup makes this beverage just as fun as it is hydrating. If you’re not into strawberry, Impostos has a whole lineup of summer refresher drinks to satisfy any taste bud. ~ Jordan Hernandez, HG Contributor + Volunteer Coordinator
