Ice cream season is officially here. While we’re not ones to pass up a waffle cone in the middle of winter, we all know that ice cream simply tastes better in the summer. Hoboken and Jersey City are packed with some excellent scoop shops but when you need to satisfy an ice cream craving in the Mile Square City don’t overlook Thomas’ Ice Cream Cafe. The Scoop
Thomas’ Ice Cream Cafe opened in Hoboken in 2019 and serves a variety of artisanal treats. Everything is made from scratch and the experienced team behind Thomas’ has worked in the food industry for over a decade. Guests can even watch them making the ice cream behind the counter while perusing the flavor options.
There’s some indoor seating but when the weather’s nice it’s hard to beat a spot outside. Snag one of the sidewalk tables for some prime people-watching with your scoops. Pets are welcome to tag along, too.

The shop is located at 214 Jefferson Street in Hoboken and is a quick walk from the 2nd Street Light Rail Station. It is open from 1PM-11PM every day.
Ice Cream Options
Thomas prides itself on serving homemade ice cream and the flavors range from classics like chocolate and pistachio to some more unique options like coffee Oreo and banana. Scoops can be enjoyed in a cup or cone plus toppings like sprinkles and gummy bears are available for an extra-special treat.
Kiddie cups are on the menu for little ones but adults can order this size, too. We recently had a kiddie scoop and it was plenty for an after-dinner treat.
Scoops aren’t the only thing you’ll find here. Thomas’ also creates custom cakes that come with your choice of any two ice cream flavors along with fudge and “crunchies”.
Thomas’ also serves up classic treats like soda floats, banana splits, sundaes, or milkshakes. Sundaes come with your choice of one flavor, one topping, whipped cream, and a cherry.

Happy Hour Dairy Deals
Speaking of sundaes and milkshakes, Thomas’ hosts one of the best happy hours in town. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 1PM to 6PM and you’ll only have to pay $6 for two scoops of ice cream, a banana split, or large shake.
