Summer will be here in just a few short weeks, which means everyone is outside enjoying the seasonal weather. For those who love both furry friends and the outdoors, perhaps it’s time to give puppy yoga a try. The fun is in the name: it’s a yoga class, but with puppies to keep you company as you flow through the Asanas. Many pups are available for adoption, so attendees can meet a new friend and maybe even bring one home. Keep reading for places to practice puppy yoga in Northern New Jersey.

Angry Erik Brewing | 2 Camre Drive, Hampton Township (Newton)

Angry Erik Brewing opened its doors over a decade ago. The brewery has over 15 unique beers on tap, such as The Dainty Viking (Elderflower Blonde Ale), Pedals’ BIPA  (BIPA), and Maxwell Heavy (Scotch Ale). It also serves snacks like chips and salsa, knotty pretzels, and freeze pops. Angrik Erik occasionally hosts puppy yoga classes through partnerships with local rescue organizations. Berkeley Heights YMCA | 59 Locust Avenue, Berkeley Heights

The Berkeley Heights YMCA hosts beginner-friendly puppy yoga events each summer. These events are also Home for Good Dog Rescue fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds going to the organization. More details can be found on the event pages.

My Dog’s Got Class Dog Training | 1271 Route 22 East Unit W11, Lebanon

My Dog’s Got Class provides a more unique service compared to the others on this list. For those who already have a dog and are looking for a mellow space for pups to relax, try the Guided Meditation: Mat Work class. Owners hang out and learn as dogs get to experience the magic of the practice. Classes include tackling frustration, learning to relax in different environments, and more. Dogs should bring their own mats and have their owners bring a leash (max six feet) and some treats. This class is three one-hour sessions.

Peak Yoga: Mind Body Soul | 5711 Berkshire Valley Road #1, Jefferson

Located in Northern Morris County, Peak Yoga: Mind Body Soul has yoga classes such as Vinyasa, Yin, Yoga Sculpt, Prenatal, and Kundalini. It also holds creative workshops for yogis like sound bath events, arm balancing workshops, and breathwork events. Peak Yoga also occasionally hosts puppy yoga classes. Sweven is a coworking space in downtown Hoboken, just steps from the PATH station. Monthly memberships and day passes are available for those looking for workspace and community. With community comes events, and Sweven has been known to host a puppy yoga class or two.

TB Yoga House | 12 Community Place, Morristown

TB Yoga House is located near the intersection of Community Place + Morristown’s bustling South Street. The studio has classes such as HouseFlow (vinyasa-style), HouseRemix (toning + sculpting), DynamicChair (chair yoga), ManCave (stretching + movement for men), and more. TB Yoga House features a class called DogHouse. This class is a yoga + adoption event. All pups are available for adoption. There’s a request for yogis to bring their mats. Those interested can check the website for future dates. TB Yoga House also has a class called Yoga with Kittens, where yogis will practice with free-roaming kittens available for adoption.

Wise Animal Rescue

Aside from helping countless dogs and cats find their forever homes each day, Wise Animal Rescue (a 501c3 non-profit) also hosts puppy yoga. These events directly benefit discarded animals from commercial breeders who have found themselves in shelters or families who were facing challenging times and had to rehome them. Wise can also host a private puppy yoga session for groups of five or more — head to the website for more information.
